Almeida - June 2012

Almeida restaurant seems to be the restaurant of choice for us whenever we go to Almeida Theatre! They offer good value set lunch ( 2 courses for £15.95 or 3 courses for £18.95) and the food is good.

On this occasion, this is what was on the set lunch menu:

For starter my hubby ordered Pork & Peppercorn Rillette, Celeriac Remoulade, Watercress Salad, and I ordered Crayfish and Avocado Salad, Confit Tomato, Creme Fraiche. Both starters were nice, mine is lighter and more summery, while my hubby's starter is more hearty (especially the portion was very generous!)

For main course, my hubby ordered South West line caught Pollock, Spiced Mussels, and I ordered Braised Beef Cheek, Pomme Puree, Red Wine Shallot Sauce. The fish skin was nice and crispy, the spiced mussels went well with the fish. The beef cheek was melting in the mouth and the pomme puree very smooth!

For dessert, my hubby ordered Homemade Ice Cream & Sorbet and I ordered Glazed Passion Fruit Tart, Yoghurt Sorbet. Both desserts were pretty enjoyable.

Our lunch at Almeida was very enjoyable. The food is classic but competently cooked. The staffs are always nice and friendly. The service is efficient. The bread at Almeida is also very good!

Over the past ten years, we have been on and  off to Almeida restaurant many times and we always had a good  meal there. We would be very happy to have Almeida as our local restaurant as the food is good and they have excellent value Fixed Price Menu for lunch (£15.95 for two courses or £18.95 for three courses). Their Fixed Price Menu offers the choice between 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts.
Unfortunately we don't live near Islington so we tend to eat there only when we go to Almeida theatre!
On our last visit, this is what they offered for their Set Lunch:

The menu offers a good choice of dishes for a set lunch. Below are the pictures of the dishes that my hubby and I chose to have.

Roquefort, Wlanut & Chicory Salad, Watercress, Walnut Dressing

Foie Gras and Chicken Liver Parfait, Madeira Jelly, Brioche

Pan Fried Hake, Crushed Potatoes, Champagne Veloute

Creme Brulee, Madeleine

Poached Rhubarb, Yoghurt Pannacotta and Prosecco Soup.

Our lunch at Almeida was very enjoyable, the food was classic & simple but nicely cooked.  The service at Almeida is friendly, competent and efficient. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the restaurant itself is very nice, especially there is a lot of light coming in.

We have two other plays booked at Almeida Theatre for this year, so we will definitely be back this year!
